As a Mom, I don’t know of anytime that my family couldn’t use some encouragement, resources, ideas, or just plain old funny happenings. As we walk through life together we need each other.

One of my daughter’s favorite stories is the old tale of “Stone Soup”. It speaks of long ago when a hungry wandering man traveled through a village. He asked for food but no one could share. So he set up a fire, borrowed a pot, and filled it with water. Then he placed a rounded smooth stone in the pot. Soon townspeople came out of their isolation and due to curiosity made conversation with the man. They asked, “what are you doing” thinking he was a crazed individual. He replied, in a very persuasive way, “making stone soup”. He slowly tasted the soup and said, ” yum, but, it could use a carrot”. One by one the townspeople would search their nearly empty cupboards and find a carrot, an onion, some cream, and broth until eventually the pot was full of stew, enough to feed the village. After every person was fed, the wandering man -stomach totally filled, then reached into the pot, carefully pulled out the stone. He cleaned it off while gently wrapping it in a worn cloth and tucked it into his pocket. It served it’s purpose, to feed the hungry.

In the book of John, chapter 6, verse 35, “Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in me will never thirst.”  Jesus is the giver of satisfaction in life. We who are brothers and sisters in Christ should build one another up and encourage each other and bring others to know him. 1 Thessalonians 5: 11 says, “Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you are also doing.” May we find strength in Christ and courage for each day. I hope that this blog serves you as your “stone” for our “community soup”.
